Nars: Outer Limits Eyeshadow Review

Guess what's back this year? Yes, the none other than the Nars Hardwired Eyeshadow in Outer Limits! I  wanted this eyeshadow so badly last year, but it sold out! You know how it is with limited edition stuff! I remember how the hype was real last year, so I jumped on this when it was available this year! Outer Limits is a part of the Hardwired collection, which comes with a few other shades. I only picked up Outer Limits, because this is the only shade that stood out to me. Also, let's face it I don't need anymore eyeshadows! So ya, let's get into this review!

Nars Outer Limits Eyeshadow

Let's start off with the packaging. It comes in the normal Nars eyeshadow packaging. Last year, the Nars embossing was in this metallic hot pink, which was stunning, since it was a part of the Christopher Kane collection. I kind of wish this year they did something different as well, but I mean the regular Nars packaging is still chic. It has that rubber like feel to it! It's super sturdy and convenient to travel with! It has a nice little mirror inside. It comes with 3.1g of product and retails for $31CAD. You can purchase this now at Sephora or the Nars website. It should also be available at Nars counters as well! If you been eyeing this, I highly recommend that you pick it up now, before it sells out! It's limited edition this year as well!

Another look at this product!

Nars is on the pricey side and that's why I always debate about purchasing their products. But, this eyeshadow is way too stunning to pass up on! It's honestly the prettiest eyeshadow that I've ever seen! Like, the pictures don't do it justice! It's a stunning iridescent rose gold with pink glitter. Like, you guys need to see this in person! It may not sound like it's all that, but it is! This eyeshadow is packed with a ton of glitter and I mean a ton!

Here's a look up close!

Here's a swatch without the flash!

Here's a swatch with flash!

Let's talk about the formula of this eyeshadow. The texture is smooth, but the swatch is patchy. All you pick up is glitter! Like, the rose gold part is a bit sheer. I was definitely not expecting that! I was expecting it to be super pigmented, since it's bold in the pan! This eyeshadow does have fallout, since you're working with glitter, so it's best to do your eye makeup first and then your face! Also, since it's very glittery, it does transfer into your crease! Normally, I pat on MAC Fix Plus over the eyeshadow so that it doesn't transfer into the crease like crazy, but this stuff is just out of control! I've tried so many different techniques and it just doesn't work! Other than that, this eyeshadow is pretty long wearing. I've had this on for max 5 hours and it did a good job lasting all night! It didn't start to fade away or anything!

I put Outer Limits all over my lid. I wish it was super opaque! You can see that it transferred into my crease!

Another look

Let's move onto the application part. Since this eyeshadow is very glittery, don't attempt to blend it, because you'll just have glitter flying everywhere! This is legit just a lid shade or you can apply it in the inner corners of your eyes! If you want to use this as your whole lid shade, be sure to use MAC Paint Pot or something that has a tacky base like the Paint Pot! This eyeshadow definitely requires a base and a primer! I tried using my flat synthetic brush that I normally use and it just didn't work out that well! It just didn't give me the result that I was looking for. It looked really patchy and the glitter just flew everywhere. I sprayed MAC Fix Plus onto my brush and that too didn't work that well. It just wasn't as bold as I would like it to be (which is weird, because normally Fix Plus makes eyeshadows pop!). I also tried a natural hair brush and that's even worst, because the glitter just gets everywhere. So, the best method was applying with my fingers! You want to make sure that you pat it on and not swipe it or else it'll just look patchy. When I pat it on with my fingers, it looked a lot like the product in the pan. It was bold and you saw the beautiful iridescent finish and the pink glitter! I don't like to use this all over my lid, since it transfers. I just create that 3D Smokey Eye look, so that it doesn't transfer and my makeup looks clean!
Also even with your fingers, you have to pat on several layers, since this eyeshadow isn't opaque! It's definitely not an easy eyeshadow to work with and I had to try several methods!

When I pat it on with my fingers, it came out better ( this is with several layers!). However, it still doesn't "wow" me!

A final look at this eyeshadow on!

Overall, I'm not too impressed with this eyeshadow. It's definitely lacking in several departments! I wish before Nars relaunched this shade that they fixed the problems! I went through the reviews last year and a lot of people felt the same way about this eyeshadow! They just found it patchy and difficult to work with! That's why it upsets me that Nars didn't pay attention to what people had to say. Since it's a relaunch, the formula should have been improved! I won't be returning this product, because it's stunning and I found a somewhat way to make it work. However, I definitely won't be purchasing any of the other Hardwired Eyeshadows! If the formula is exactly the same as this one, then it's definitely not worth $31! There are better options in the market at an affordable price! So ya, this is my opinion on this eyeshadow! I'm super upset that it didn't work out! Let me know if you tried this eyeshadow and what your thoughts are! I'm back from vacation and I just been super exhausted! I had so much work to catch up on and I'm working more hours, so that's why I haven't been active on my blog! I posted several pictures from my trip on Instagram, so go check it out @divyapatel_mua. I'll be posting my haul very shortly, so stayed tuned for that! It's my biggest haul of the year!
